Science Week! We are paleontologists!
This week in Reception we have immersed ourselves in paleontology. We have learned so much about dinosaurs. We started the week by comparing different dinosaurs and looked closely at their features. We quickly realised that not all dinosaurs are the same. We learned some new scientific vocabulary 'Carnivore' and 'herbivore' and we talked about what kind of things dinosaurs liked to eat.
We had chance to explore the dinosaur dig and used our paleontology skills to discover which type of dinosaurs were stuck in the rocks. Aftwerwards we used dinosaur skeletons to make our own fossil imprints.
On Wednesday we were lucky enough to rescue a dinosaur from a swamp without touching it! We used stones to rise the water level to allow the dinosaur to climb out of the water. We also spent time hatching 'Bicarbonate of soda' dinosaur eggs. We looked at the way in which the eggs changed and fizzed as we added the white vinegar!
On Friday we were lucky enough to dress up as a well known scientist .(Thankyou for all of the amazing efforts with costumes everyone looked fantastic) We spent time studying Mary Anning, a scientist who discovered a complete Plesiosur fossil ( a marine animal that swam along our shores in the jurassic period). Miss Edmunds even dressed up as her on science day! We also had a visit from a fellow Paleontologist from year one who let us have a look at some real life fossils!
We have had the most exciting week! We have enjoyed being scientists! Have a look at the photographs below.
